Scope of Work
Design improvements to enhance the coastal community’s water supply, including expansion of the spring collection network, installation of surface water treatment facilities, and increase of storage capacity.
Project Challenges
- Spatial limitations as treatment improvements and upgrades were restricted to the original facility footprint, plus storage expansion accomplished in limited site acquisition.
- Financial constraints. USDA Rural Development funding (grant and low interest loan) supported the community outreach, environmental documentation, design, and construction management activities.
Solutions and Successes
- Treatment building design included input from community members, resulting in a facility that blends into the existing residential neighborhood.
- Expanded spring water collection system eliminated necessity to augment supplies using the old well during high demand periods allowing the local community access to safe, high quality water year-round.
