Scope of Work
Three discrete design projects executed in consecutive construction seasons. In addition to design, Brelje & Race prepared a dam break analysis, an Emergency Action Plan and construction documents to satisfy the State of California Division of Safety of Dams (DSOD) requirements.
Project Challenges
- Repair of approximately1600 (Pond C) and 700 feet (Pond D) of 30-foot tall dike with extreme seepage.
- Failed 48-inch diameter pipe fitting located 25 feet beneath the center of the dike between Ponds B and C, necessitating removal of the failed fitting, adjacent pipe and a large section of the surrounding dike.
Solutions and Successes
- Solid working relationship with DSOD facilitated project progression.
- Installation of a smaller diameter replacement pipe for the Pond B repair satisfied hydraulic requirements and saved the City tens of thousands of dollars in repair costs.
